So why does my water heater pressure relief valve leak.
Gas water heater leaking from pressure relief valve.
If a pressure relief valve for a boiler is accidentally installed on a water heater it will leak like crazy from the start.
Im having problems with my pressure relief valve leaking after i take a shower.
A good solution to this risk is the relief valve.
If it leaks then it can do quite a bit of damage in just a short amount of time with just the water that is leaked.
1 either the water pressure inside the tank is too high 2 the water temperature is too high 3 the t p valve hasn t been used in a few years 4 the wrong t p valve was installed or 5 the t p valve itself has failed.
I replaced the relief valve and it is still doing the same thing so i bought a new hot water heater and pressure relief valve.
It still hasn t fixed the problem can you please give me some insight on my problem because i have ran out of ideas to fix the issue.
Usually what causes a leak is the minerals in the water that will deposit on your valve.
To remove a t p valve first turn off the electricity or gas and wait for the water to cool which usually takes about 24 hours open a hot water faucet near the heater to release pressure and drain the tank until the water level is below the valve disconnect the overflow tube you may have to cut it and unscrew the valve with a wrench wrap plumbing tape around the threads of the freshly.
If the water inside the unit gets too hot usually above 210 degrees or pressure builds up too high above 150 psi the water heater can become damaged or even explore.
A water heater pressure relief valve is what prevents the levels of pressure from your water heater from getting to dangerous levels.
What does the relief valve do.
